Birthday Parties - September 14, 2025
It's the second week of school and G has already attended two birthday parties, wow. It seems they are a huge event here, equipped with the rental of a place and/or entertainment, food, and goodie bags. I think there were parties like this in the States, but it wasn't quite as common, at least in our circle.
For my kids' birthdays we either had a small get together at our house with cake or we let them invite a couple friends to an outing, but maybe that just makes me the lame mom. I'm okay with that. They had a blast tie-dying shirts with our neighborhood kids in our backyard for R's birthday a couple years ago.
It's been fun going to these parties though, and it has given me a chance to meet some of the other parents. Plus, it's tradition around here for everyone to go home with a piece of cake (you don't eat it at the party). The first party, you grabbed an aluminum foil wrapped Victoria sponge on your way out, and this most recent one they put them in plastic tubs. It might take me a minute to wrap my head around this party favor - why not just eat it at the party?
